Hospital and
Outreach
Education PRU, Northamptonshire – 1 day inspection, 4.3.2009
We had 2
inspectors
who arrived early! We were clear from the Pre Inspection briefing what
they were wanting to see and had prepared accordingly. Disappointingly,
they wanted to see very little of the mountains of paperwork to prove
that we do what we say we do!
One
inspector travelled to our other base to do teaching observations
so teachers from both based were viewed.
There was a
big focus on data and pupil progress as you would expect –
they liked our analysis of ILP data – i.e the number of targets fully
met, partially met and not met etc, and asked specific questions about
pupils not meeting their predicated grades in last year’s GCSEs.
We were
asked specifically about the 5 outcomes and what we did to
promote these, and how we ensured SMSC was delivered.
There was a
specific focus on the foundation stage pupils and their
personal development, including our use of outdoor facilities at the
hospital! This is because Ofsted have to report, now, on all settings
that provide for the foundation stage.
The overall
judgement was good with outstanding features – that will do
for us!
Areas we
have to target
• Better use
of individual targets in lessons and ensuring that pupils
know and understand their learning targets and tracking them from
baseline more effectively to show pupil progress.
• Refining
our performance indicators and data processes to demonstrate
pupil progress
Anyone offer
us pearls of wisdom, all gratefully received!
