East
Midlands
We are very
fortunate in the East Midlands area as we have 3 reps on
the main NAHHT committee and have tried to work together on numerous
projects.
In
Northamptonshire, we are busy trying to plan our curriculum for next
year, to extend the number of externally accredited courses we offer,
save money, ensure equity with pupils educated in base and on outreach
and accommodate our part time staff – easy really! We are looking
forward to a time when we shall be able to keep it the same each year
….will that day ever come???
In terms of personal development, we are
looking to trial the Personal
and Social Development Award from ASDAN and the Preparation for Working
Life GCSE from AQA. In theory, we should be able to do one piece of
work that will hit 2 qualifications so we shall look marvellous in
terms of outcome – anyone had any experience of them? Would be grateful
for comment!
We are supposed to be having a posh
refurbishment in the summer
holidays but have not yet started packing – not that we are sceptical
of course!
In Lincolnshire, we’re developing our VLE
and now have several staff
trained in this very different style of teaching. Like colleagues in
Northants, we’re also trying to extend the number of accredited courses
and have just started to offer OCR Nationals in ICT. The OCN Youth
Train Programme is also going from strength to strength.
Recent achievements include Financial
Management Standard In Schools
(FMSiS) and National Healthy Schools status. Now the work begins to
hang onto them!
We’re facing several staff changes at the
end of this year and are busy
recruiting and revising the way we work with more specialist teams
taking responsibility for areas such as ASD, Assessment and the VLE.
Accommodation is still a major challenge! In
Lincoln, one of our
busiest areas, much of our furniture and resources are packed away in a
steel storage container, having been removed from the hospital site
there. We’re working hard with the LA to find a home for it and are
very grateful to colleagues in the local Integrated Service Team,
especially the Youth Workers, who are allowing us to share one of their
facilities in the meantime!
